As a psychologist, I often notice a seasonal theme that emerges with the arrival of summer: the world gets louder—physically, mentally, and emotionally. For many of the clients I work with, summer brings a surprising mix of heightened expectations and reduced capacity. And if you’re feeling this too, you’re far from alone.
Summer is marketed as a time to relax and enjoy—but in reality, it often adds to our mental load. With school holidays, shifting routines, travel plans, social invitations, and an unspoken pressure to be “making the most of it,” the season can become overwhelming rather than restorative.
I want to gently remind you that if you’re feeling stretched, tired, or overstimulated right now, there’s nothing wrong with you. The mental load you carry doesn’t disappear just because the days are longer or the weather is warmer. In fact, it often grows heavier—especially for those managing anxiety, caregiving, or simply the ongoing demands of everyday life.
Here are a few strategies I often share in sessions that you might find helpful:
If life is feeling too loud right now, I invite you to listen inward. What do you need less of? What do you need more of? Small adjustments can make a big difference.
Above all, please remember you don’t need to do more to be enough. You’re allowed to slow down. You’re allowed to take up space for yourself. And I’m here if you need support along the way.
