This year’s theme, Better Together, couldn’t feel more appropriate for today’s disconnected, modern age.
As we take a moment to reflect on what supports our mental wellbeing, one key idea stands out—connection. In fact, did you know that one of the three core pillars of happiness is social connection?
We’re wired for it. From deep friendships to simple shared moments, connecting with others helps us feel seen, supported, and safe. Whether it’s a chat over coffee, a phone call with someone who really gets you, or even a smile from a stranger, these small moments of connection help lift our mood, calm our nervous system, and remind us we’re not alone.
Research continues to show that strong social relationships are one of the biggest predictors of long-term happiness—not money, not success, not how many yoga classes you’ve squeezed in this week (though those can help too!). It’s about feeling like you belong, like you matter to others, and they matter to you.
That doesn’t mean you have to be surrounded by people 24/7—quality always beats quantity. It’s about nurturing the relationships that bring warmth, trust, and joy into your life. And if connection feels hard right now, that’s okay too. Sometimes reaching out is the bravest thing you can do. Whether it’s sending a text, joining a group, or just sharing how you’re really feeling with someone you trust—those small steps count.
So, this Mental Health Week, maybe take a moment to think: Who brings light into your life? And how can you bring a little light into theirs?
Because truly—we’re better together.
