You’re just getting on with your day, when out of the blue a strange and often upsetting thought pops up in your head.
Why does your brain do this and are the thoughts true? Could the thoughts be the real you and your true self?
Do any of these sound familiar?
I get how shocking this is to read.
These are all very common thoughts and do not mean you’re losing the plot. Usually, we just hold these types of thoughts for a few seconds and carry on with what we’re doing. If these thoughts happen frequently or we’re not able to move on, they’re probably intrusive thoughts.
It’s quite common for people who have intrusive thoughts, to also be overthinkers and worriers. Intrusive thoughts are different to worry thoughts because they’re at odds with what you know is true and go against your values.
